More than a century ago these rocks behind the Cape Coast Castle witnessed the horrors of slave trade as hundreds of thousands of frightened Africans stood manacled on these rocks before being loaded onto slave ships. Today these same rocks are a place of peaceful freedom, where bright young African boys play and free Black men can stand quietly watching white waves dash and die on dark rocks that have stubbornly resisted the merciless pounding. What a contrast to see it peaceful now, which used to be in turmoil.
