I love riding through rural Alabama. The fields and abandoned homes remind me of the years I drove all over south Alabama visiting the families who lived in these homes and worked the fields.
I remember visiting an elderly couple — Frank and Leanna Moorer — in Pink Bottom, Alabama, a small community near Isom Bottom and Minter.
It was a cold winter day, so they were sitting next to a wood burning heater. I sat down with them and listened to them tell old stories while we ate parched peanuts and baked sweet potatoes.
Interestingly, I took this picture near Perdue Hill after we buried their son, Andrew, decades later.
I don’t get to travel as much as you do, but I love just riding around looking. I look for places like this and try to imagine what happened there, who lived there etc… thanks for sharing.
