All to Him I Owe

“Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe . . .”

Sometimes I seek to make photographs that are powerful because of their symbolism. Here the juxtaposition of a worshiper and the draped cross with a crown of thorns spoke volumes to me. I lifted my camera, captured the message, and was moved deeply. My camera and I had portrayed the story of salvation.

Sunset Colors of Chattanooga

The sunset colors in Chattanooga, Tennessee were dimmed by the overcast sky, but the lights from other sources made the waters of the Tennessee River shimmer as the sun slipped below the horizon.

It is a challenge to shoot from the Walnut Street Bridge because even though you have your camera locked down, joggers that pass by make the bridge vibrate for what seems like an eternity when time and light is at a premium.

Wondering who these former worshipers were and what stories they would tell from days gone by?

Empty Bench Series: Bench #4

Benches are wonderful places to sit and enjoy the scenery any time of year. During the Fall season one can sit and enjoy seeing the greens of summer chnage to yellow, and finally fall to create an ochre carpet on the forest floor.

My “Empty Bench Series” is a look at nature and people from the perspective of an empty bench. Sit down a moment and view the world from each bench.

This bench is near Mammoth Cave.

Empty Bench Series: Bench #3 – The Swinging Bench

I love swings. They are like swinging benches. The old Southern houses had one or two on the front porch. Years ago I would drive to Greenville, Alabama and visit Jim Herbert, a nonagenarian, who was full of wisdom and stories. He had two swings on his front porch.

If it was warm we would sit in the two swings and talk. We swung back and forth, back and forth, back and forth and talked. Sometimes we talked ’til way past dark; then the crickets would join our conversation.

I miss Jim Herbert and his swings. He died but the memory of him and his swings lives on.

On this bench the rising morning sun warms your back as the fog dissipates from the valley. Slowly breathe the cool fresh air. It looks like a bright day ahead. Carpe diem!
