This picture from my evening walk at Lenora Park reminds me that sometimes life’s pathway leads us through darkness. But Jesus, the Light of the World, shines through to give us hope and remind us there is a bright side somewhere.

On October 13, these trees were vibrant green in the early morning light. By November 7, less than a month later, they have transformed into a brilliant display of reds, marking the arrival of autumn.

Each fall, this stately maple slips into a blazing red coat, then gracefully undresses for its long winter sleep.

After the thunderstorms cleared, the sun emerged, causing the still visible branches of this tree to cast a sharp outline on the lush green lawn of Lenora Park in Snellville, GA. As leaves fill in the canopy, the shadow cast by the branches will be transformed into a nearly solid silhouette.

Transient leaves change colors, fade, fall, and die.
Enduring tree trunks stand exposed, erect, and live again.

This swing beside a dirt path in the woods reminds me that we often need a quiet place where we can think, play, relax, and just be by ourselves for awhile.
It reminds me of a Ralph Carmichael song that I learned to love years ago . . .
There is a quiet place
far from the rapid pace
where God can soothe my troubled mind.
Sheltered by tree and flower
there in my quiet hour with him
my cares are left behind.
Whether a garden small,
or on a mountain tall
new strength and courage there I find,
and then from that quiet place
I go prepared to face a new day
with love for all mankind
Swing beside quiet path
