More than a century ago these rocks behind the Cape Coast Castle witnessed the horrors of slave trade as hundreds of thousands of frightened Africans stood manacled on these rocks before being loaded onto slave ships. Today these same rocks are a place of peaceful freedom, where bright young African boys play and free Black men can stand quietly watching white waves dash and die on dark rocks that have stubbornly resisted the merciless pounding. Every rushing, pounding wave touches the shore for a moment
and then turns to suds and slips back out to sea.

After I finished shooting the Seattle skyline through the golden and blue hours, I was on my way to my car when I saw a monument with large circular holes in each side. There should be a picture here somewhere I thought. Then I saw this image and captured it.
