Rim Light

Sometimes the evening sun creates a subtle rim light on subjects that separates them from the background. It always excites me.

Sometimes God’s light shines on us and separates us from the darkn[m]ess around us. We can’t see it, but others do. That humbles me.

The Courthouse

Nothing prepared me for how huge the buttes in Sedona, Arizona are. This formation is called The Courthouse. I walked a good distance through foreground clutter before I saw this pathway that provides a clear line of sight to the Courthouse. In today’s society we sometimes have to plow doggedly through opposition before we can see a way to justice. Don’t give up your fight for social justice. The arc of history will end in justice.

Green Pastures

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

A pilgrim worships at a painting outside the tomb of Joseph of Arimethea and Nicodemus. I love the way she caresses the timeworn art and the way the colors came together. Jerusalem

The gilded sun sets the evening aglow as it drops behind the distant mountains that bear Jerusalem on their back. Sweimeh, Jordan

Down Home Alabama

I love riding through rural Alabama. The fields and abandoned homes remind me of the years I drove all over south Alabama visiting the families who lived in these homes and worked the fields.

I remember visiting an elderly couple — Frank and Leanna Moorer — in Pink Bottom, Alabama, a small community near Isom Bottom and Minter.

It was a cold winter day, so they were sitting next to a wood burning heater. I sat down with them and listened to them tell old stories while we ate parched peanuts and baked sweet potatoes.

Interestingly, I took this picture near Perdue Hill after we buried their son, Andrew, decades later.

Words and light reflections on the floor of Terminal J of the Miami International Airport remind me that “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalms 119:105 NLT — Miami, FL
